Enrollment Deadline: 1 March 2026

Participants will report for total case depth, effective case depth, or both. Participants reporting data for total case depth should use either the optical or chemical method defined in SAE J423, and participants reporting data for effective case depth should use the SAE J423 mechanical method. SAE J78 is also referenced.

Sample Description: Two alloy steel cylinders that are case-hardened to two slightly different levels.

Samples ship in May and November for a total of two shipments.

Additional Information: Samples require surface preparation before testing; laboratories will need to grind and polish the samples according to their standard procedure. The samples may also be cut and mounted.
